Ƙiko, now 14, took a bullet for his owner during a home invasion, and shortly after became homeless after his owner was forced to move and could not take Ƙiko with him.
Mighty Mutts, a rescue organization based in NYC, took Ƙiko and has been searching tirelessly ever since to find him the right home.
“We’ve all been working hard for Ƙiko for the last year and a half – it is so thrilling to see him find his home,” Jill Haynes of Mighty Mutts told. Ƙiko is elderly and deaf, so a forever home had to have specific requirements to meet his needs.
A couple who knew they would be the right family for Ƙiko saw his story and contacted Mighty Mutts about him. The couple came to get Ƙiko and finally take him to his long-awaited home. Ƙiko seems overjoyed.
Mighty Mutts posted on their Facebook page in celebration of Ƙiko’s new home, saying, “He went to his forever home Thursday night with a wonderful couple that is devoted to him.
They saw the article on him in The Dodo that was shared thousands of times, and knew he was the dog for them.”
Mighty Mutts relies on on foster families to take care of the rescues that they bring in, and Ƙiko’s foster mom Casey Ryan was a real hero to him while he waited to find him forever home.
“He is a super, senior, hero dog and he deserves a forever home where he can be spoiled and loved unconditionally,” Casey told before Ƙiko was finally adopted.
Mighty Mutts is always looking for NYC-based fosters to help them care for their loving dogs before they find their new homes, and currently have many dogs still waiting for fosters.
Glad he has a family to watch over and protect him now!
